OmegleNet

Privacy Policy

Effective date: 28 September 2026 · Last updated: 28 September 2026

OmegleNet ("OmegleNet", "we", "us") is a service for anonymous one-to-one video, voice (audio-only) and text chat with random strangers, for adults only. This policy explains what we collect, why, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and your rights.

The short version

  • You don't create an account. We don't ask for your name, email or phone number to chat.
  • Your browser gets a random device ID that lets us run your session and enforce bans.
  • Text messages are stored for 30 days for safety.
  • During video chats, still snapshots are taken at random moments (roughly every 20–40 seconds) of your own camera and of the video you receive from your partner, and checked by an automated safety system. Voice-only and text chats are never snapshotted. Snapshots are encrypted and kept for up to 90 days; ones the system flags are kept for 1 year as evidence, or longer if they're needed for a legal investigation. If you use a face sticker or background effect, snapshots of your camera show what your partner sees.
  • We never record audio, and we never record video. Video and audio pass through our relay server, which doesn't store them.
  • Your chat partner can't see your IP address. Every chat goes through our relay server. See section 6.
  • OmegleNet is free to use. We don't take payments, so we hold no payment details.
  • We don't sell or share your personal information for advertising, and we don't use advertising trackers.

1. Who we are

The controller of your personal data is Quantumplug Technologies LLP, Darbhanga, Bihar, India (a limited liability partnership registered in India).

  • Privacy questions and requests: hello@omeglenet.com
  • India Grievance Officer: Quantumplug Technologies LLP, hello@omeglenet.com

2. Adults only

OmegleNet is only for people aged 18 or over. Before you can chat, you confirm that you're 18 or older. We don't currently use a third-party age-assurance provider; if we add one for some countries, we'll update this policy first. We keep only the result (adult / not adult), the method and the date. We don't ask for your date of birth, and we don't keep ID documents or face images for age checks. If we learn that someone under 18 is using the service, we block their device and delete their data. The exception is data we must keep for child protection or legal reasons (see section 9).

3. What we collect

CategoryWhat exactlyWhere it comes from
Device IDA random identifier (UUID) created by your browser and stored on your device as omegle.deviceIdYour browser
Session tokenA signed token linked to your device ID, valid for 7 days, stored as omegle.tokenOur server
PreferencesChat mode, interests you enter, "strict interests" setting, the gender you pick in the one-time popup, your country (guessed from your IP, see below) and language, and any partner filters (stored on your device as omegle.prefs). Interests, your declared gender, country and language, and your filters are sent to our server for matching and held in memory only while you're in the queue; your declared gender, country and language are shown to your chat partner. Nothing is verified.You / your connection
Age check resultThat you confirmed you're 18+ and, where required, the result of an age-assurance checkYou / age-assurance provider
IP addressUsed in real time for security, rate limiting and bot protection, and to guess your country (our network provider, Cloudflare, tells us the country the request came from; we use only the two-letter country code, never your location) so you don't have to pick it. We store only a keyed, one-way hash of the IP (not the IP itself) with your device record and with any ban.Your connection
Text messagesEvery message you send in a chat, the chat room ID, your device's internal user ID and the timeYou

What we do not collect: we don't record audio or video streams. We don't capture your partner's video. We don't use facial recognition or analyse face geometry. We don't collect your contacts or precise location, and we don't use advertising or analytics trackers.

If you're in the EEA, UK or Switzerland, we rely on the following legal bases (GDPR Art. 6):

PurposeData usedLegal basis
Running the chat service: matching you with a partner, relaying connection setup, delivering text messagesDevice ID, session token, preferences, IP addressContract: necessary to provide the service you asked for
Keeping the service safe: automated checks of snapshots, storing text messages, handling reports, bans and appealsSnapshots, text messages, reports, moderation records, device ID, IP hashLegitimate interests: protecting users (especially from sexual exploitation and harassment), enforcing our Terms, and preventing illegal content. Where snapshots reveal sensitive information (for example nudity), we process it only where the law allows it for preventing unlawful acts, protecting people from harm and establishing or defending legal claims.
Preventing bots, spam and abuseIP address, device ID, captcha resultLegitimate interests in securing the service.
Checking you're an adultAge declaration, age-assurance resultLegal obligation where local law requires it. Otherwise legitimate interests in keeping children off the service.
Reporting child sexual abuse material and responding to lawful requestsRelevant snapshots, messages, device ID, IP hash, moderation recordsLegal obligation (where the law of our establishment requires it) and legitimate interests in protecting children and cooperating with law enforcement. We process information about criminal offences only where the law authorises it.
Answering your requests and complaintsYour messages and identifiersLegal obligation (privacy requests) and legitimate interests

You can object to processing based on legitimate interests. See section 10. We may not be able to keep providing the service if you object to safety processing, because it's essential to running a safe stranger-chat service.

5. Automated moderation and automated decisions

  • While you're in a video chat, our server asks your browser, at random moments (the first a few seconds after you connect, then roughly every 20–40 seconds), for a still snapshot of either your own camera or the video you are receiving from your partner, and your browser sends it to our server. A snapshot of the video you receive is treated as your partner's data, not yours. Random timing and checking the received video stop a modified app from hiding content. Voice-only and text chats are never snapshotted. We check it with an automated image classifier from Sightengine SAS (France) or Google Cloud Vision (Google LLC, US), whichever classifier is switched on. The classifier estimates the likelihood of nudity, sexual activity and graphic violence. It does not identify who you are.
  • Snapshots may in future be checked against lists of known child sexual abuse imagery ("hash matching"). No hash-matching provider is used today; we'll name it here before we start.
  • If a snapshot scores above our threshold, your device may be automatically suspended for up to 24 hours. Three reports from different users within 24 hours can also trigger an automatic 24-hour suspension. Longer or permanent bans are decided by a human moderator, except where we detect known child sexual abuse imagery.
  • When you're suspended, we tell you why, which rule was involved, whether the decision was automated, how long it lasts and how to appeal. You can ask for a human to review any automated decision via the appeal link or at hello@omeglenet.com. You can also express your point of view and contest the decision.
  • Moderators may look at flagged snapshots, reported users' snapshots and the text of reported chats.

6. Your IP address and your chat partner

OmegleNet uses WebRTC, the standard technology for video and voice calls. Every video and voice chat is routed through our relay (TURN) servers, so your partner's device only ever sees our server's address, never your IP address. Text chats go through our servers too.

Our relay servers pass the encrypted audio and video through without storing it. They see your IP address (they have to, to deliver the call); we don't log it beyond the connection logs described in section 9.

7. Who we share data with

We don't sell your personal information and we don't share it for cross-context behavioural advertising. We share data only with:

8. International transfers

Some recipients are in the United States or other countries whose laws may not protect data as strongly as the law where you live. For transfers from the EEA, UK or Switzerland we rely on the EU–US Data Privacy Framework (and its UK and Swiss extensions) for certified companies, and otherwise on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses (with the UK Addendum) plus supplementary measures. You can get a copy of the relevant safeguards from hello@omeglenet.com.

9. How long we keep data

DataHow long
Text messages30 days
Safety snapshots that are not flaggedUp to 90 days
Safety snapshots that are flagged1 year (kept as evidence), or longer under a legal hold
Reports and bans365 days from creation (a ban is never deleted while it's still in force)
Material involved in a child-safety report or legal requestAt least 1 year after we report it to NCMEC or receive a preservation request, or longer where the law requires
Device record (device ID, hashed IP, age-check result)Until 12 months after your last visit, unless linked to an active ban or legal hold
Technical logs, including relay-server connection logs (which contain IP addresses but no account ID)Up to 30 days
Data on your device (localStorage)Until you clear your browser storage or use "Delete my data"
BackupsDeleted data may stay in encrypted backups for up to 35 days until they rotate

The full schedule is in our data retention schedule.

10. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • access your data and get a copy (portability);
  • delete your data;
  • correct inaccurate data;
  • object to or restrict processing, including processing based on legitimate interests;
  • not be subject to a decision based solely on automated processing that significantly affects you, and to get human review (see section 5);
  • withdraw consent at any time, where we rely on consent;
  • complain to your data-protection authority. In the EU, that's your local authority. In the UK, it's the ICO (ico.org.uk).

How to use them. Because we have no accounts, we identify you by the device you use:

  • Download my data and Delete my data are available on the Privacy settings page on the device you used. Deleting removes your device record, your text messages, your unflagged snapshots and reports you made, and clears OmegleNet data from your browser.
  • If you no longer have that device, email hello@omeglenet.com. We may ask for your device ID.
  • We answer within one month (extendable by two months for complex requests, in which case we'll tell you).

What we may keep after a deletion request: bans and reports about you while they're relevant to safety (up to their retention period), and anything under a legal hold (for example child-safety reports). This is permitted where needed for legal claims, legal obligations or overriding legitimate interests.

US state privacy rights

If you live in a US state with a consumer privacy law (for example California, Colorado, Connecticut, Oregon, Texas or Virginia), you have the rights to know/access, delete, correct and port your data, and to opt out of sale, sharing for targeted advertising, and profiling in furtherance of significant decisions. We do not sell or share personal information and do not use it for targeted advertising. We honor Global Privacy Control signals. You can appeal a denial of your request by emailing hello@omeglenet.com with "Appeal" in the subject. If your appeal is denied, you may contact your state attorney general. We won't discriminate against you for using your rights. You may use an authorized agent. We'll verify their authority.

California notice at collection: the categories of personal information we collect are identifiers (device ID, hashed IP), internet activity (usage logs), audio/visual information (safety snapshots), and sensitive personal information only to the extent a snapshot reveals it. We use them for the purposes in section 4 and keep them for the periods in section 9. We don't use sensitive personal information to infer characteristics about you.

India

If you're in India, you can access, correct and erase your data, nominate someone to act for you, and raise a grievance with our Grievance Officer (Quantumplug Technologies LLP, hello@omeglenet.com). If you're not satisfied, you can go to the Data Protection Board of India.

11. Security

We use encryption in transit (HTTPS/WSS, and WebRTC's built-in DTLS-SRTP for media). We restrict and log moderator access, store IPs only as keyed hashes in our database (connection logs aside, see section 9), encrypt stored safety images, and delete data on the schedule above. No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affects you, we'll notify you and the authorities as the law requires.

12. Cookies and local storage

We use a small number of items stored in your browser that the service needs to work, and, while it's switched on, a bot-protection check when you start a chat. See our Cookie Policy.

Installing OmegleNet on your phone

There's no separate app to download. You can add the OmegleNet website to your phone's home screen ("Install app", or Share → Add to Home Screen on iPhone). It's the same website running in its own window, so everything in this policy applies unchanged, including what's kept in your browser's storage. It asks for your camera and microphone only when you start a video or voice chat.

13. Children

The service isn't for anyone under 18. We don't knowingly collect data from children, except as needed to block them and to protect children (for example reporting child sexual abuse material). If you think a child is using OmegleNet, report it in the chat (F9 → "Looks under 18") or at hello@omeglenet.com.

14. Changes

We'll post updates here and change the "Last updated" date. For significant changes we'll show a notice on the website before you next chat.
